Obituary of Elton Augustus Morris

Elton Augustus Morris went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 27, 2020, at the Laurels of Bon Air. Elton was born June 5, 1919 to the late George Morris and Annie Jane Bell Morris.

Elton became a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Mohemenco Colored Community School of Powhatan, VA. Elton worked at St. Emma’s Industrial and Agricultural Institute.

He also worked in Toano, VA with a timber contractor. His last job was with Ocean Spray Cranberries Company in New Jersey.

In later years he returned to Powhatan, VA still blessed with good heath, enjoying fishing, sporting events, eating at Golden Corral, spending time with family, friends, and attending church.  

Elton said his secret to reaching 101 years old is “I don’t let anything worry me.”

Elton was preceded in death by his parents: 4 sisters and 6 brothers. Elton is survived by 2 daughters Lucille Morris, Helen Swann, of Powhatan, VA, 2 sons Lester Morris (Rosa), New Canton, and Delwood Morris (Annie Mae), of Powhatan, VA, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted caregivers: Helen Swann, Kay Bigelow, Sharon Sadler, Adrian Swann, and The Laurels of Bon Air.
