Obituary
Vanessa Fitzgerald Dotson was born in Manhattan, New York on June 2, 1965. She was the daughter of Emma Jones and Joe Dotson.
She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Center Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Horace Montague.
She served in the inspirational choir, youth, Sunday school teacher, youth choir director, and church treasurer.
She was a graduate of Cumberland High School. She attended Key Business College, and Strayer University. She was employed at E. R. Carpenter Fidelity Life Insurance Company, and Virginia Correctional Center for Women as a secretary to the warden, where she was employed for thirty years.
After retiring she relocated to Northern VA to be a caregiver to her sister, Veronica Dotson until her death. Vanessa then returned to Cumberland to care for her aunt, Kathleen Crump and mother, Emma Jones until her passing.
In 2023 she joined the Mt. Pero Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Patrick Bland.
Vanessa had a kind and loving spirit. She loved everyone. Especially family, but what she loved most of all was praising God. She enjoyed dining out. Her favorite foods were seafood, Chinese, and occasionally, a good T-Bone steak.
She leaves to cherish her life, companion Roger Scott, two god-children, Tyesha White (Antre) and Logan Dunson; two god-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Azalia White; brother, Joe Lydell Dotson; four uncles; Pastor Ralland Robinson (Francine), Cleveland Robinson (Diane), Sylvester Robinson, and Linwood Crump; three aunts, Vera Gibson, Ethel Johnson, Lottie Trent (Floyd); two devoted cousins; Dalinda Carter (Maurice) and Wendy Goff, a super friend, Trinette Jefferson-Pitts, and a host of other relatives and friends.
I wish I could see you one more time
Come walking, through the door.
But I know that is impossible,
I will hear your voice no more.
I know you can feel my tears,
And you don't want me to cry.
Yet my heart is broken,
Because you had to die.
I pray that God will give me strength,
And somehow get me through
As I struggle with this heartache,
That came when I lost you.
