Obituary

Allison Lynette Miles-Cox

Born on October 26, 1977, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, Allison Lynette Miles-Cox was the beloved daughter of Lynwood Carroll Miles Sr. and the late Alice Irene Sims Miles. She passed away peacefully in her home in Chesterfield, Virginia, on October 2, 2024.

Allison graduated from Powhatan High School in 1995, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Roland Cox Jr. A devoted wife and mother, she initially worked as a substitute teacher before dedicating herself fully to raising her children and later caring for her grandchildren in Powhatan, Virginia. As time passed, she made her home in Chesterfield, Virginia, surrounded by the family she cherished.

Known for her boundless love and selflessness, Allison was a second mother to many, nurturing not only her own children but also her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her home was always open, and her heart overflowed with care and compassion for those she loved.

Preceded in death by her mother, Alice Irene Sims Miles, cousin Jamie Nash, uncles Reginald and Floyd Miles, aunt Myrtle Sims, and cousins Durocher and Donnell Jackson, Allison's legacy of love and strength continues to shine through her family.

She leaves behind to treasure her memory two devoted sons, Brad Cox (Chelsea Seim, Significant Other) and Brandon Cox (Devoted adopted daughter Alyssa Coada), along with her four cherished grandchildren: Bryson Cox, Blake Cox, Serenity Belcher, and Aliyah Cox.

Allison is survived by her beloved sister, Carol Miles Pride (Lawrence Pride), her father, Lynwood Carroll Miles Sr., and her brother, Lynwood Carroll Miles Jr. She will also be remembered by her sisters-in-law, Jennifer Cox and Tiffany Jones, brothers-in-law, Kirk and Clay Cox, and her many nieces and nephews, including Samuel and William Johnson, Tiffany Johnson (William Smith), and Cynthia Johnson (George Cooke). Her great-nieces and great-nephews, Ja'Kayla and Je'Lesa Smith, Isaiah and Ryan Johnson, Jayceon Lewis, and Jordan Smith, will carry forward her memory.

Her closest confidants were her aunts Vita Miles Nash & Angie Miles King, along with her cousins Shawntell Sims & Cristal Grubbs, that also hold Allison dear in their hearts. She will be missed by a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Allison's spirit of love, generosity, and warmth touched everyone she knew. Though she has left this world, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know and love her.

Psalm 121:1-2, 7-8 (NIV)

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

"The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;

the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

My Mother Kept A Garden

My Mother kept a garden. A garden of the heart; She planted all the good things, That gave my life its start.

She turned me to the sunshine, And encouraged me to dream:

Fostering and nurturing The seeds of self-esteem.

And when the winds and rains came, She protected me enough;

But not too much, she knew I'd need To stand up strong and tough.

Her constant good example, Always taught me right from wrong;

Markers for my pathway To last my whole life long.

I am my Mother's garden, I am her legacy.

And I hope today she feels the love, Reflected back from me.
