Obituary of Reginald Allan Miles

Please share a memory of Reginald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

You only live once and you need to enjoy life!” That can definitely be

said about Reggie. He enjoyed life and the numerous people he met on

his journey. He will not only be missed by his family but also by his close

friends and acquaintances.

Reginald “Reggie” Allan Miles, Sr. was born in Farmville, Virginia on

September 23, 1946, to Floyd and Hortense Miles. He was the oldest of

ten children. He attended Powhatan Public Schools and graduated from

Pocahontas High School. Reggie attended Virginia State University for a

brief period. In high school he drove the school bus and played baseball.

He frequently shared his baseball knowledge with anyone who would

listen. When his grandson, Craig, Jr., played baseball in high school and

college, Reggie was ecstatic! He attended most of his games and

remembered Craig’s stats as well as his team members. Reggie had a

talent for numbers. He could do math equations mentally.

Reginald Allan Miles, Sr., age 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at

Journey Palliative Care (Richmond VA Center), Richmond Virginia, after

a bout with pancreatic cancer. During Reggie’s illness, his sister, Julie, and

her daughter, Arielle, affectionately tended to his every need on a daily

basis as well as provided lots of love and support. He will be lovingly

remembered by his sons, Craig Alan Miles, Sr. (Kenya) and William

Ernest Miles; grandson, Craig Alan Miles, Jr.; granddaughter, Kaiya

Henderson; great grandchildren, Zalaya and Tristen Henderson; seven

sisters, Joyce Miles, Linda Ballard, Doretha Harris, E. Marlene Miles,

Angela King (Bradford), Vita Nash, and Julie Miles; brother, Lynwood

Miles; uncle, Andrew Miles; aunt, Mary Miles Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends including lifelong friends, James Sturdifen and Mark Harris. Reggie’s

dedicated friend, Al Jones, visited him twice daily while he was in

palliative care. Reggie is preceded in death by his son, Reginald Allan

Miles, Jr., parents, Floyd and Hortense Miles, and brother, Floyd

Nathaniel Miles.

When it came to the game of pinochle, Reggie was a master at it. He

traveled to different states playing pinochle and earned numerous

trophies. Fishing was another one of his pastimes. He always bragged

about “the one that got away.” In addition to fishing, he also hunted with

his sons. Their “long laughing hunting” story was that of the squirrel.

“You may not be with us anymore, but our love for you will never end.

We miss you, Pop.”
