Gracie Lee Mayo-Brown, daughter of Edmonia Mayo-Tanner was born in Cumberland County Virginia on July 20, 1936.
She attended public schools in Cumberland, Virginia. Gracie's entire life was spent in Virginia. At an early age she joined the Pleasant View Baptist Church.
In 1954, she was joined in wedlock to James Lest "Butch" Brown. To this union eight children were born. She was a loving mother, who loved to cook, enjoyed watching her TV game show network, but her greatest passion was sewing homemade quilts by hand for her children, grandchildren, and friends. She had a memory that no one could explain because every month she would always remember to send out birthday cards to whoever was celebrating a birthday in the month.
On Monday, May 6, 2024, she departed this life at Bon Secour St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, daughter, Flossie; great-grand daughter, Cara; three brothers, George, Randolph, and Lenwood; two sons-in-law, Ralph and Norman; and brother-in-law, Howard.
She leaves to cherish fond memories five, daughters, Mary Jane (Clifford), Janice Lestine, Christeen, Sharon, and Shirley; two sons, James, Jr., (Jane) and Bernard(Mary Ann); fifteen, grandchildren, Jammie, Timmie, Glovernett, Dana, Ray, Monique, Ardina, Richea, Keisha, Bernard, Jr., Dantrica, Norman, Jr., Nicole, Tomonica and Tearra; fourteen great grandchildren, Keavon, Aeden, Alana, Ezekiel, Blessin, Bre'era, Caiden, Nicholas, Noah, Malik, Myles, McKayla, Maya & Corey, Jr.; one great great granddaughter, Laylani; two sisters, Annie Riddle, and Mary Virginia (John); two brothers, Willie Earl (Dorothy) and Paul (Mary); two brothers-in-law, William and LeRoy Booker; a very, very devoted cousin, Virginia Emma Crump, ("Thank you for always being there for her"); a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
To Our Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister & Friend
To our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend
whom we miss tremendously already.
It's unbelievable that you are not here anymore.
As I sit and write these words,
I can't help but think about how you won't be there when
I walk through the door to your house.
You have led and created a legacy
that we are so proud to be a part of.
I truly wish you could physically be here to see
and share with us our future accomplishments,
You being gone is a pain I thought I would never have to endure.
I love you forever and ever.
With love, your mini-Christeen (aka Baby grandchild Richea)»(Do not delete this line. It does not print. Text that is to appear on web must be entered before this line)
