Hazel Novell was born December 14, 1936, to Nelson and Frances Thomas Norvell in Columbia, Virginia. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant View Baptist Church where she served on a number of ministries. Hazel attended Flat Rock school in Columbia until the seventh grade and then the class moved to Luther P. Jackson. Hazel graduated from Luther P. Jackson, going on to Virginia State University. Hazel met and married Earl Urquhart and from this union two children, Carla, and Michael, were born. Hazel led a very successful and full life. She was well traveled, visiting Europe, Canada, and Mexico. She has been to several states as well. Most of her married life she spent as a soldier's wife. She was active in the community, just to name a few, she represented District one with the board of Social Services, member of the Cartersville Garden Club, Cartersville Women's Club, and member of the Cartersville Rescue Squad, where she served many veterans' breakfasts. Hazel was a schoolteacher and she taught for more than thirty years in the Fayetteville, NC School System. She loved education, teaching and especially helping children learn to read. She was a well-educated lady with three master's degrees. Hazel peacefully went home on June 14, 2023, to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Carla Urquhart. Hazel leaves to cherish fond memories; son, Dr. Michael Urquhart (Colleen); her loving grandson, Ian Urquhart, and a host of cousins and friends. REMEMBER ME Don't remember me with sadness, Don't remember me with tears, Remember all the laughter, We've shared throughout the years. Now I am contented, That my life it was worthwhile, Knowing that I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. When you are walking down the street And you've got me on your mind, I'm walking in your footsteps, Only half a step behind, So please don't be unhappy, Just because I'm out of sight, Remember that I'm with you, Each morning, noon, and night. Acknowledgement The friends of Hazel Norvell Urquhart acknowledge with deep appreciation your kind expressions of sympathy. May God continue to bless each of you.
