Mabel Doretha Scruggs Mack was born on January 3, 1920 to Lewis Scruggs and Ruth Kennon Scruggs in Powhatan, Virginia
She attended Powhatan County Public Schools. At an early age she accepted Christ, was baptized, and became a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

While in New York, she and her late husband, Lee Jefferson Mack, were active, devoted, and hard-working members of the Friendship Baptist Church. If there was ever a need, they were always ready to lend a helping hand, including in the construction of the church.

She was also a talented artist and loved to draw. She was an excellent seamstress and sought after by many in need of tailoring. She had many interests, including upholstery. God saw you Getting Tired
God knew that you were so tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So, he put his arms around you.
And whispered come to me.
The Golden Gate stood open.
God knew you needed rest,
His garden must be beautiful.
For he only takes the best.
Although we cannot touch you
You're never really gone,
For in the hearts of those who love you
Your memory lives on.
