Please share a memory of LaTasha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LaTasha Shawntel Brooks, affectionately known as "Tasha" was born in Farmville, Virginia on August 13, 1985 to Glendora and Stanley Brooks. As a child LaTasha attended Bright Morning Star Church with her grandmother, Mattie D. Brooks. She enjoyed herself so much that she became a member. She loved and cherished her church family and will be forever remembered and loved by them for her character, personality, and caring traits. Tasha was employed at various jobs over the years. She worked as a home health aide, at the Cumberland Restaurant, and the Department of Juvenile Justice at the Beaumont location, where she served for over five years until her health declined. Tasha was a 2004 graduate of Cumberland High School. Also, in 2004 Tasha met Duayne Washington, who became very special to her and later in 2005 they created a beautiful daughter, Da`Shawna. Tasha was a God-fearing woman who peacefully passed on from this earth to her heavenly home, on the afternoon of April 7th, 2023, after a long hard fight. She was always surrounded and supported by her loved ones, caregivers, church family, and friends during the last days of her life. Tasha loved to cook and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her daughter, Uncle Mike, and her sweet nieces, nephew, and godchildren. LaTasha was preceeded in death by her parents, grandparents, other family members, and her special friend, Duayne Washington. Tasha leaves to cherish fond memories; a loving daughter, Da`Shawna Washington, a grandmother, Alice Giles, a great aunt, Anna Giles, one brother, Troy Parrish, Sr, four nieces; Emoni Allen, Paityn Parrish, Taleah Parrish, Takayha Parrish, one nephew; Troy Parrish, Jr., aunts; Bertha Giles, Nora Giles, Patty Watkins, Drusilla Mosby-James (Curtis), and Ruth Walker (Gill), two uncles; Thomas (Tom) Brooks and one very devoted Michael Brooks, two devoted cousins; Teneka Brooks (Taylor) and Rukiyah Brown (George), along with her very own bonus and devoted family, her godparents; Shirley and Craig Mosley, some great bonus brothers; Christopher, Deandre (Casey), Brandon (Ruby), bonus grandmother; Nancy Monroe, aunts; Diane Monroe, Alfreda (aunt Moe) Hatcher, bonus sisters; Dominique Green ( James), Shantelle Trent, Rashonda Cannon, along with all her sweet precious god children, Taylor Johnson, Makayla, Kamirah, Jazzmyn, George (GJ) Brown, Jashaun, Jatwaun Liggins, and a host of other relatives, church family, former coworkers, and friends. Dear Mom, You taught me to mind my manners, how to love and never to give up, you also taught me God and within Him, I shall trust, you said to me "weep when a child is born and rejoice when that child has gone home." Blood, sweat, and tears, we were there for each other through it all. As I look at my forearm it will always read "because of her I'll risk it all." I knew you would always be there. As you always said "for her ill risk it all" which was so very true. Those tattoos we chose, forever printed became our oath because you would put up a fight for me and I'd fight for you the same way. We would laugh about some of the cheesy things we've done or wanted to do. Because no matter where you were, you made a way. Mom, you always managed to plant a smile on my face, so I'll never forget the things you used to say and always remember to pray. I will celebrate your life today and lift my head high because I am your "phatcake." I love you and see you later Tashy. If Tears Could Build a Stairway If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane, we would walk right up to heaven and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it , and only God knows why. Our hearts still ache in sadness, and secret tears still flow, what it meant to lose you, no one will ever know. But now we know you want us, to mourn for you no more, to remember all the happy times… life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, we pledge to you today, a cherished place within our hearts is where you'll always stay! Love you our Goddaughter, Craig and Shirley Mosely FROM THE FAMILY What we will miss the most about you: Taking time to talk on the phone with various friends and family, while scrolling on Tiktok, eating ice. You loved and enjoyed vacations, despite the odds that were against you. You always made a "way out of no way" for you and your family to make sure everyone was going to be okay. You loved giving gifts, sitting around, listening, and telling stories. Take your rest, our sweet Angel, your job down here is done. We as a family and bonus family will take care, and make sure your beautiful daughter will be well taken care of until we meet again our sweet love, we love you Tasha with all our hearts. Love the family. Acknowledgements The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to all who expressed their love during our bereavement. Your many acts of kindness, including cards, phone calls and visits are deeply appreciated. May God bless you and His love be yours to share.
