Lilly May Hubbard Foster was born on February 19, 1929, in Cumberland County to Sidney and Blanche Brown Hubbard. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She received her education in Cumberland County Public Schools. Lilly joined in marriage to Jacob Foster and moved to Orange, New Jersey. From this union five children were born. They also fostered 25 children. She was employed by A.M. VeriTyper for a total of 15 years as a technician. Lilly enjoyed tending her garden, cooking, attending church and spending time with her family. She was a strong, hardworking mother and grandmother who will truly be missed. Lilly May Foster departed this life Tuesday, March 14, at Centra Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, after declining health for the past six months. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers; Ralph, James, and David Hubbard. She leaves to cherish fond memories two daughters, Jackie and Theresa Foster; two sons, Ronald and David Foster; grandchildren, Damon Foster, Maurice Wardell, Sharonda Robertson, Malik Robertson, Najee Foster, Daquan Foster, Khayree Caraway and Khalil Foster; one brother, Aaron Hubbard (Ruby); three sisters, Shirley Banks, Sally Miller (Thomas), Martha Sims (Reginald), a number of great grandchildren, brother-in-law, Junius Foster (Lucille); sister-in-law, Estelle Hubbard, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She also leaves behind devoted family members, nephew Benjamin "Bubba" Hubbard (Gerald) and cousin, Adell Sims. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; AND there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. For the former things are passed away." Revelations 21:4 My Mother Kept A Garden My Mother kept a garden. A garden of the heart; She planted all the good things, That gave our life it's start. She turned us to the sunshine, And encouraged us to dream: Fostering and nurturing The seeds of self-esteem. And when the winds and rains came, She protected us enough; But not too much, she knew we'd need To stand up strong and tough. Her constant good example, Always taught us right from wrong; Markers for our pathway To last our whole life long.
