Obituary of Robert A Lee, Sr.

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Archer Lee, Sr. was the first born of six children to Charles and Queen Lee. He was a faithful, lifelong member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia. "Mr. Lee", as he was affectionately known to the community, was born August 22, 1930. He was educated in Powhatan Schools. Mr. Lee had a lifetime career in the grocery industry to include Maxey's Store, UKrop's, Flatrock (May's) Supermarket and IGA. Mr. Lee enjoyed helping others in the community as he served as a Poll Officer for Local, State and National elections. While serving in this capacity, Mr. Lee would be happy to see everyone out voting no matter what their political affiliation. One of his greatest joys was his family gatherings and sitting on the porch watching his family laugh and enjoy all the good meals prepared. He would wait daily on the porch for the school bus to arrive with his grand or great-grandchildren in tow. Mr. Lee would love to greet his Pastor and hear the choir sing every Sunday at Hollywood Baptist Church. Mr. Lee never met a stranger, he enjoyed talking to anyone that he came in contact with. On Saturday, May 14, 2022, Robert A. Lee, Sr. departed this life at St. Francis Hospital after a short health battle. Mr. Lee was preceded in death by: his siblings, Vernell, Mildred, Charles and George. Robert leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 61 years, Gladys O. Lee; his children, Robert, Jr., (Kimberley), Brian (Sonia) and Lanette; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Austin, Lena, Bria and Chloe Lee, Kayla Hines (Desmond), Amber Owens (David) and Desmon Booker; seven great-grandchildren, Alani, Dominick, Avyn, Kensli, Zariyah, Desmond (DJ) and Zuri; one brother, Maurice and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee and Ruby Turner; one niece, Joyce Carter (Robert); four nephews, Larry, Crittleton, Charles and Gregory Lee. Robert had two devoted friends, Virgil "Doc" Allen (Iona) who he would talk with daily and discuss the Jerry Springer Show and Michael Booker who would come by and assist with any yardwork or just good conversation on the back porch. Miss Me But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rights in a gloom-filled room Why cry for a soul set free Miss me a little…..but not too long And not with your head bout low. Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me but let me go, For this is a journey we all must take. And each must go alone It's all a part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me…. but let me go. Acknowledgements The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to everyone for their many acts of kindness shown through your prayers, cards, text messages and phone calls during our time of bereavement. May God bless you and His love be yours to share.
