Rosa L. Gaines was born on April 22, 1946 in Cumberland, Virginia to Henry and Annie Carter Boatwright.

Rosa attended Pine Grove School in Cartersville, VA. After school she worked various jobs, including nursing care and a stint as a school bus driver in Riverhead, New York.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had lots of flowers in her backyard. One of Rosa's favorite pastimes were trips to casinos - her last trip was a family outing to Las Vegas. She especially enjoyed cooking and would often cook for the whole neighborhood. People in the community would place orders and buy plates in advance. Her specialties were homemade rolls, souse and pies.

Rosa was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Henry Boatwright, Earl Boatwright, James William Boatwright, and Ernest Boatwright; sisters, Dorothy Boatwright and Lottie Boatwright.

Rosa leaves to cherish fond memories: three sons, Roosevelt Gregory, Ronald Gregory, and Roger Gregory; two daughters, Delores Gregory, and Deborah Childress; thirty-two grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Loretha Kirkwood, Molly Boatwright, and Bernice Boatwright, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A heart of gold stopped beating

A smiling face at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.

God has taken one of his best daughters home.

There she will reunite with other loved ones,

And wait for us to come join her.
