The late Mrs. Roberta Miller was a latter-life cherished "lady-buddy" of our mother, the late Mrs. Betty Gilliam Scales. Mrs. Miller was beloved and respected also by our entire family, which is evident in the attached photo (with her wearing a dark beret cap). Mrs. Miller had actually lived the vast majority of her life in the state of New Jersey, with her having married and co-parented 3 sons with a Cumberland native, the late Mr. Billy Miller (who had settled in the north as a young adult upon his return from World War II). However, the widowed Mrs. Miller eventually moved to live on family land located just a couple of miles from the Scales homestead, with Mrs. Miller and our mother soon thereafter developing their decade-old friendship that only ended due to the passing of our mother in 2015. During those years, Mrs. Miller often drove the short distance to visit and socialize with our mother, with our mother then happily reciprocating by treating the-of-stater to excursions and outings in Cumberland, Richmond, and wherever their hearts desired to go. Even with the passing of our late mother in 2015 until the recent passing of Mrs Miller, the Scales family (especially those living just a few minutes from her, Michael and Patricia) continued to befriend and support Mrs Miller, not only in honor of her past friendship with our mother, but also because of Mrs. Miller's quiet, gracious, and grateful ways. On the other hand, Mrs Miller also had a very, yes, "sassy" side of her ranging from her making "beauty-poses", her love of and good taste for clothing fashions, and showing off her quick wit, with her often bringing about laughter with her delightful "sharp-as-a-tack", "one-liner" humor that she often had to laugh at her own self! And although the widow lived alone in Cumberland with her only still-surviving son residing in the state of Florida and visiting when he and his wife could, Mrs Miller always responded that when she was not visiting or being visited by us or her family, that she never felt alone, which she explained as being because of her passion for reading, and especially because of her faith in God.
Mrs Miller...you are missed...and you will always be missed!! But our consolation is that now you and our beloved late mother are together and rejoicing, especially in the loving presence of Christ Jesus, of course, but also in each other's presence ....once again!! Amen!!!
In loving respect and memory,
The Scales Family
NOTE: the lateness of this posting was out of waiting for Mrs. Miller's obituary as to refer to it and thus not contradict her personal information, but we have decided to proceed with this post to the best of our knowledge, and we ask to be excused for any information that is not correct, as it would have been done out of innocence...and love.
