Carol Jean Hatcher Harris was born in Cumberland County, Virginia on December 28, 1945, to Royal and Elizabeth Harris Hatcher.
Carol accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Cumberland, Virginia.
Carol attended Luther P. Jackson High School. After school she moved to New York to find work. While there, she gave birth to a son, Keith Andrew Hatcher.
Years later she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she met and married Robert Harris in 1988. Carol also adopted a daughter while living in Philadelphia, Fatima Tia Hopkins.
She decided that it was time to return home to Virginia where she landed a job in the nursing field working as a home health aide until her health declined.
Carol often expressed her creativity with her arts and crafts, and by completing and displaying her jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid animal lover, dogs being her favorite. Carol loved attending and participating in family gathering where she was always a hoot.
She departed this life on February 11, 2022. Carol is preceded in death by her parents Royal and Elizabeth Hatcher; son, Keith Andrew Hatcher; daughter, Fatima Tia Hopkins; two sisters, Queen Hatcher, and Mary Lou Brown; four brothers, James Cato, Archer Hatcher, Lloyd Hatcher, and Leroy Hatcher.

Her Journey's Just Begun
Don't think of her as gone away
her journey's just begun
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no day and no years.
Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today,
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched.
For nothing loved is ever lost
and she was loved so much.
