Obituary
Obituary of Willie Edward Hendricks
Please share a memory of Willie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Willie "Duke" Hendricks, son of Charlie M., Sr. and Ruby Woodson Hendricks was born October 10, 1951 in Cumberland, Virginia. Beside his parents, he was reared in a home with love and affection with one brother and four sisters.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the Petersville Baptist Church in New Canton, VA.
Duke attended the public schools in Cumberland County where he graduated with the class of 1970. For a while he worked for the Department of Corrections in Powhatan. Thirty-five years ago, he moved to New Jersey in search of employment, he retired from the Clara Maass Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. Duke never married or had any children. He enjoyed watching sports on television and spending time with family and friends.
Duke passed away suddenly at his home on August 25, 2021 and our hearts are saddened by his passing, but we thank God for the sweet memories that will linger in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rosa Hendricks Evans and Barbara Hendricks Woodson.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: one brother, Charlie Hendricks, Jr.; two sisters, Ruby Jones (Jerry) and Nellie Blanton (Lynn); three aunts, Pearl Cooper, Marian Woodson and Beulah Woodson; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dear Brother, Your Memory Will Never Fade
My dear brother now that you are gone You're no longer here to share
The bond we had together A bond of love and care.
Yet somehow something tells me You are watching over me
Now that from worldly cares You finally are free.
I miss you so very much, And my tears I cannot hide
Yet, within my heart, I feel You are always by my side.
Ever since you went away Life has not been the same
Yet, it comforts me to know That one day we'll meet again.
Love You! Nellie, Charlie & Ruby
Another limb has fallen from the family tree
that says grieve not for me.
Remember the BEST TIMES, the laughter, the song,
the good life I lived while I was strong
