Homegoing Celebration for Linwood Thomas Miles, Jr.
Linwood T. Miles, Jr., fondly known as Moosie, was born in Powhatan, Virginia on February 16, 1953, to delighted parents and loving sisters. He went to be with God on July 8, 2021, at the age of 68 years old. In life he lived alone but was surrounded by his sisters and niece in his final hours. Moosie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He attended public schools in Powhatan and began his college education at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). After an auto crash at age 20, his education was interrupted. He sustained spinal cord injury and spent the remainder of his life in a wheelchair. However, he did not allow the wheelchair to define him. He lived on his own in Richmond, Virginia for a number of years. He completed his degree in Information Systems at VCU and worked for a short time in his chosen field. He loved NASCAR racing, computer games, and "old school" music. He was upbeat and witty, and in spite of the tragedy and the many hospitalizations, his spirit remained strong.
After Linwood, Sr. passed, Moosie graciously accepted the role of head of the family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Deaconess Catherine Sims Miles; father, Deacon Linwood T. Miles, Sr.; aunts, Vennie Stewart (Joseph), Alice Sims, Margaret Young (Henry), Martha Turner (Douglas), Lucy Turner (James), Laura Sharp (Wilmore), Josephine Harden (Floyd), Lettie Bolling (Sam), and Lena Morris (Edgar); uncles, Ernest Miles, William Miles, Wilson Miles (Bessie), Floyd Miles (Hortense), Arthur Miles, John Sims, Jr., John Harden (Louise), and Spencer Cephas; and several cousins. He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Louise Williams (Lenwood), Bernice Miles, and Gloria Nash (Gerald); a loving niece, Brianna Monic Nash; aunt, Mary Miles Jones; uncle, Andrew A. Miles, many cousins, and friends.
Linwood loved family and we loved him and will miss him. We take some comfort in knowing that he is with God and Mom and Dad, and that we will one day be united with them.
End of-life services are entrusted to the Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home. A short graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2591 Ridge Road, Powhatan, Virginia. Dr. Cavell Phillips will officiate, and Rev. Dr. Floyd A. Miles will deliver the eulogy. Interment in the church cemetery.
