Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
EVELYN PEARL HARGROVE, also known as "Kitty", was born on January 8, 1939 in Cartersville, Virginia to the late Willie T. and Vernon M. Smith. She put on her angel wings and went home to glory on June 21, 2021. Evelyn received her education from the Cumberland County Public School System. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Riverhead and later Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She served as a Deaconess and a member of the Senior Choir (sometimes filling in as the organist). She loved being able to serve her church and community. She had the biggest heart and immediately became "Mom" to everyone who met her. They were drawn to the compassion she showed to others, her caring ways, magnetic personality, genuineness and warm, loving heart. Helping others, playing the piano, singing gospel music, talking (oh, how she loved to talk), sharing her childhood stories, making home-cooked meals, solving puzzles, writing poems, reading, traveling and spending time with family, especially spoiling her grandchildren, was the joy of her life. Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband whom she missed greatly, Melvyn Hargrove;sweet little brother, Robert J. Smith; "golden girl" sisters, Alice Booker, Mary Horne, Bonnie Hill and loving daughter; Valerie Lisa Martin. She leaves to cherish her memory, six children; Thomas Randolph (Jackie), Wanda Skeeter, Kendra Hargrove, Derrick Hargrove (Joann), Brenda Hargrove-Addison and Yvonne Wild (Steven). Four brothers; Raymond Smith (Marcelle), Herbert Smith, Elder Jerry Fore (Joan) and James Fore (Nedra). Two sisters; Virginia Green and Christine Eadom. Seventeen grandchildren; Nikkya (Dinushka), Natasha (RaShaun), Robert, Daniel, Iesha, Nyesha, Deja, Ciara, Jarred, Little Wayne, Jonathan, Kavion, Tyler, Christian, Autumn, Brandon and Brenten. Four great-grandchildren; Aviah, Lera, Amir and Jordan. One brother-in-law; William Hargrove (Barbara), one sister in-law; Katherine Daves (Elder Robert) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved Church family.
