Obituary of Bernice Elizabeth Crump

Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernice Elizabeth Crump gained her heavenly wings on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Bernice was born on December 22, 1953 in Cartersville, Virginia to Melvin and Marian Hampton. Bernice received her education from New Hope School in Cartersville, Va. and Cumberland H.S. in Cumberland County, Va. There she met her future husband, Freddie A. Crump, Sr. They later married on September 25, 1971. Bernice was baptized at an early age and continued to practice her faith at New Hope Baptist Church in Cartersville, VA. She later moved to Richmond, VA and began working at the University of Richmond in 1977. She was a dedicated employee and adored by her co-workers. Bernice retired in 2016 after 39 years of devoted service. Bernice was a quiet natured woman, but she had an infectious laugh that would light up the room. Her homemade cooking was loved by many, especially her family. One particular dish was her rice pudding, which was always requested at family gatherings. When Bernice wasn't cooking for her family, one of her favorite places to eat was Red Lobster. Family was very important to her. Needless to say, whenever there was a chance to spend time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, she was all for it. Bernice was preceded in death by her father, Melvin W. Hampton and sister, Julia Hampton. Bernice will be sorely missed and will continue to live on through: her husband of 49 years, Freddie A. Crump, Sr.; her children, Freddie "Bo" Crump, Jr. (Tina) and Tasha Crump; three grandchildren, Quentin Crump, Madisyn Redd and Noah Crump; devoted mother, Marian Hampton; sisters, Marian Taylor (Anthony, Sr.) and Edith Hampton-Keita (Mohamed); uncle, Leroy Hampton, Sr. (Orene); brothers-in-law, Clarence "Thomas" Crump (Ann), Arthur Crump (Phyllis) and Harry Crump (Gayle); sisters-in-law, Lynn Motley and Pearl Macklin (James) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. To A Loving Wife Although our worlds are different now Or, is that just how it seems For I see you when I close my eyes Because you're always in my dreams. I know you're up in Heaven And looking down on me And, when I look up at the stars, I know that's where you'll be Even though I miss you You're not too far away Because my heart is full of memories, And I treasure them everyday Our time on Earth was special But, it's only the very start So please keep watching over me While we're not so far apart Someday the time will come When I no longer feel this pain That is the day when Heaven calls And, we will meet again. In Memory of Our Mother You were a precious gift from God above, So much beauty, grace and love. You touched our hearts in so many ways, Your smile so bright even on bad days. You heard God's whisper calling you home, You didn't want to go and leave us alone. You loved us so much you held on tight, Till the strength was gone and you could no longer fight. He had called your name twice before, You knew you couldn't make him wait anymore. So, you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away, Knowing that with our love we'd be together again someday. -Mary Estelle
