Please share a memory of Florine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florine Scruggs Booker, daughter of the late Grandville Willard and Sarah Stanton Scruggs, was born in Buckingham County, VA, on September 2, 1932. She departed this life on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the Hospice House—Hospice of The Piedmont, Charlottesville, VA. Florine accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age, was baptized and joined the Baptist Union Baptist Church in Dillwyn, VA. Later in life, she moved her membership to the Petersville Baptist Church in New Canton, VA. She was actively involved in the Food Committee and Missionary Ministries. Mother Booker attended church regularly until her health began to fail; she faithfully supported her church throughout her life. Florine was educated in the Buckingham County Public School System. She was united in holy matrimony to John Winfred Booker in Buckingham, VA., on June 16, 1951. To this union, five children were born. Their first child passed at birth; their four surviving children were taught to put God first, to be well-mannered, loving, and to make an honest living. Florine was affectionately known to family and friends as Kitty, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Auntie, and Cousin Florine. She was a loving, kind, sweet, humble, and beautiful woman of God. Her family called her "Queen" because she was treated like one; she deserved the best. She had given so much in helping others, now she was reaping the fruit of her labor. Florine was small in stature but had a big caring heart with so much love to give. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She assisted her husband in caring for his elderly parents. After her husband's job injury which left him paralyzed, she became the primary care provider for him. She still found time to help others who were in need. She was a missionary at heart. In 2007 Florine suffered a serious stroke. With the assistance of her niece, Helen Miller, Deaconess Mary Brown and family, Florine was able to be cared for in the comfort of her home. Florine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, eight sisters--Annie, Virginia, Pearl, Gracie, Lucy, Viola, Martha, Kate Lee: brother, Willard. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters—Janie and Rosa Booker, New Canton, VA..; two sons-- Bernard Booker (Sheila), New Canton, VA, Calvin Booker (Joyce), Dillwyn, VA.; four grandchildren—Calvin Booker, Jr., Dillwyn, VA, Trevena (Brian) McClinton, Midlothian, VA, Reegis Booker, Richmond, VA. and Charlene Booker, Farmville, VA,; five great- grandchildren--Keithan, Joshua, Jordan, Zack and Isaiah; one sister Sarah Hendricks, MD.; one sister- in -law, Betty Scruggs, MD.; devoted nieces-- Helen Miller, Bernice Dabney, Sarah Hendricks (Tookie), Cheryl Bolden and Minister Cynthia Bolden; devoted nephews-- Pastor Ollie Bolden, Raymond Anderson, Beryl Anderson; devoted cousin, Ethel Marie Stanton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Longtime friend, Rev. Annie B. Anderson; special friends-- Mary Brown, Lonnie & Jessie Woodson Johnson & Family, David Fleming, Dolores Liggins, Virginia Monroe, Don and Kathleen Hatcher, Jean Johnson, and The Woodson Family—Gertie, Dorothy, Shirley, Ruth, Betty, Lucille, and Raleigh. Mother Mother, as we walk through the journey of life, we will remember… We remember how you helped us to grow with love, truth, and honesty. We remember how you helped us to choose the right path with values, morals, and self-worth. We remember how you gave us dreams with hope and confidence. As we remember, we pray to be just like you, to shape our family's children into strong adults, full of hopes and dreams. You made us who we are today, and we will always remember you in life's passing's, for no one could touch our lives as you have. Remembrance in life's passing is the truest form of love one can give, for a memory should never die and a love should live forever in the heart of another. - Anonymous
