Pearline Augusta Taylor, the oldest of four children, was born January 16, 1927 in Richmond VA. Raised in Powhatan VA, she attended Pocahontas school, and graduated in 1950. She worked at Belmead's St. Emma's Military Academy for African American boys. Pearline loved country music! An article was published in 2001 naming her one stations most faithful listener since 1947 by the WXGI radio station, where she made many friends.
Pearline had a great sense of humor, and a very strong will. She is a breast cancer survivor, and despite being legally blind much of her life, she was able to live independently for a very long time. She was known as a fierce card player; her favorite game was "spades." Affectionately known as "Per" and "Shorty Pearl," she enjoyed spending time with family and close friends, even sharing her famous recipe for her homemade rolls and cornbread. She shared valuable family information until her death. She fell asleep in death on November 12, 2020 at the age of 93.
Pearline is preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Taylor, and her brother Waverly T. Taylor. She is survived by her sister June Jasper, two children Cheryl Floyd (Aubrey) of Richmond VA and Charles Taylor (Bridget) of Varina, VA, five grandchildren, Nikki Floyd, Tiffany Floyd, and Erika Floyd, all of Richmond VA, Derrell Taylor( Landra) of Richmond, VA and Anthony Taylor of Varina, VA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, three devoted, Gaella Matthews, Estelle Hicks, Eleanor Tyler and a devoted friend, Edna Smithson.
