Obituary of Elvin Gray

Elvin Gray was born January 30, 1938 to the late Nancy Coy and Gary Sims, Sr. He departed this life on his wife's birthday January 13, 2020, at his residence in Cumberland, VA. At an early age, he accepted Christ, was baptized and joined Tearwallet Baptist Church. Where he served as a faithful member. In 1958 he was joined in holy matrimony to Cora Lee Trent Gray. From this union four children were born. He was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) where he worked twenty-eight years until his retirement. He loved riding his tractor and plowing his garden and shared the bountiful harvest with his children and other family members. He loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed watching westerns on television. His favorite was Gunsmoke. Elvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a humble and quite man and a servant who loved God. Elvin's health declined in the last several years and when his sight failed, he loved listening to WFLO radio. His son-in-law Ricky was also very devoted, supportive, and assisted him with whatever he needed. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Cora Lee Gray and one son, Michael Angelo Gray, two brothers, two sisters, a nephew and niece. He leaves to cherish fond memories, one son Samuel Gray (Michelle); two daughters, Vivian Brown and Barbara Foster (Ricky); six grandchildren, Teneka Brooks, Ricky Gray Foster, Tiffany Lazarski, Thomas Brooks, Jr., Darius Elvin Foster and Brittney Booker; eight great grandchildren; One daughter in-law, Carol Gray; one brother Gary Sims, Jr. (June), two sisters Doris Crump (Crawford), Emma Lewis (Ceasar); brother in-law George Lancaster Trent (Molly), cousins, other relatives and friends.
