Obituary
Obituary of Jean Loretta Taliaferro
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean Loretta Taliaferro, aka "Ladybug," daughter of the late William Smothers and Rosetta Smothers was born October 14, 1942 in Powhatan, Virginia.
At an early age, Jean was converted, baptized and joined Little Zion Baptist Church where she remained a member. She attended Powhatan County Public Schools.
Jean worked at a sewing factory and became self-employed as a domestic worker for many years. She worked for several families, where she formed valuable relationships… she was more than just an employee.
Jean was the favorite outgoing Auntie. She was Aunt Jean or Grandma Jean to anyone that came in contact with her. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved listening to music,
dancing, playing cards and drinking her coffee. Her favorite dance was the "touchdown" and her favorite saying "whoop-d-doo." She also loved cooking her favorite family dish, Macaroni-N-Cheese. Anytime someone came to her home, they would have a good time.
On Saturday, November 16, 2019, she departed this life in Richmond, VA at The Laurels of Bon Air. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Tahlick Taliaferro; one brother, Clarence Smothers.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: two daughters, Antoinette Scott and Kaa Caputo; three sons, James Taliaferro, Jr., Calvin Taliaferro and Gregory Taliaferro; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five sisters, Annie Palmore, Pearl Hopewell (Edward), Elain Smothers,
Claudine Smith and Gloria Holman (Lyn); three brothers, George Smothers, Earl Smothers and Maurice Smothers (Pauline); one devoted friend, Lee Brown; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and individuals who considered her as their "mom."
