Walter Harold Scruggs "Butch" was born December 19, 1948 in Cumberland, Virginia to John Henry and Mable Sims Scruggs. Walter departed this life on November 1, 2019 at Sentara Health ComPlex Hospital in Hampton, VA. At an early age Walter was baptized and became a member of Old Green Creek Baptist Church. Walter attended Green Creek public school and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School in 1968 where he was a school bus driver. After graduating, Walter served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1971. On August 29, 1970 Walter was joined in marriage to Beulah Allen, to this union one daughter, Kimberly Scruggs was born. Walter was employed by Globe Products in Clifton, New Jersey then Lea & Perrins in Fairlawn, NJ where he retired. After retirement, Walter and Beulah moved to Hampton, VA where they became members of Little Zion Baptist Church. Walter was an avid fisherman and loved gardening. Walter leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Beulah Scruggs; his daughter, Kimberly Scruggs of Paterson, NJ; sisters, Catherine Carter of Farmville, VA, Hazel Clark of Plainfield, NJ and Theresa Lawrence of Spotsylvania, VA; two aunts, Edith Sims of Cumberland, VA and Mary Scruggs of East Orange, NJ; father-in-law, Ernest Allen, Sr. of Cumberland, VA; sister-in-law, Regina Belton (Frank) of Hampton, VA; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Allen, Jr. (Anna) of Cumberland, VA and Vernon Allen (Cynthia) of Paterson, NJ; godbrother, Carl Jones (Justine) of Mechanicsville, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and four special friends, Troy Frazier, Robert Wiley, Reverend Amos Hartwell and Joseph Fields, Sr.
