Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Larry James Patterson, Sr. was born on December 23, 1948, in Queens, New York, to the late James and Sally Patterson. He was predeceased by his beloved sister Diane Johnson-Dunston and brother Jerry Patterson and half-brother Lewis G. Trent. Larry was educated in the Luther P. Jackson High School in Cumberland County, Virginia. Upon graduation, Larry was drafted into the United States Army where he served for 4 years. His tours of duty consisted of Ft. Jackson, South Carolina; Ft. Dix, New Jersey and Grafenwohr, Germany. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the military, Larry was employed by the Job Corps for two years. Thereafter, Larry worked in several capacities with the Marcel Paper Co. in NY, Dowdy Furniture Company, Longwood College and Construction all in Farmville, VA and finally at Stack House Utility Company. Larry was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Cumberland, VA for all his life. He attended regularly when services were held. In addition, he was a fan of several televised ministries. When Larry wanted to relax, he loved to watch the daily news, and Smack Down Wrestling, listen to Jazz music and to read. He also loved to play cards and throw horseshoes on occasion, with family and friends. He frequently volunteered his services as official "taste tester" for family cookouts and celebrations. Larry leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted companion and fiancée of many years, Wynola Spears; one child, Larry James Patterson, Jr; four brothers, Chester (Marcia), Charles (Rhonda), Glenn (Estelle) and Michael; two sisters, Deloris Stewart and Alberta Patterson (James); one half-brother, Richard C. Trent; two half-sisters, Nora Jones and Loretha Thomas (Jeta); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
