Obituary of Lloyd Sevester Hatcher
Please share a memory of Lloyd to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On July 31st, 2019, the Lord saw fit to take our beloved home for his eternal rest after a hard-fought battle.
Lloyd Sevester Hatcher Sr., son of the late Royal Hatcher and Elizabeth Harris Hatcher was born in Cumberland County, Virginia April 23rd, 1949. At an early age Lloyd accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Cumberland where he later served on the Trustee & Usher Boards.
A graduate of Luther P. Jackson High School Lloyd went into the workforce immediately after graduation. At the age of 21 Lloyd started his career as a Corrections Officer at Powhatan Correctional Center embarking on a 34-year career. During that time, he served faithfully as a member of the Powhatan Correctional Center Honor Guard.
An avid hunter and fisherman Lloyd enjoyed the outdoors and was known as a jack of all trades. If it was broken, you bet he tried to fix it. He was an active member of the 622 Hunt Club and Cumberland County Fair Association until his health started to decline. Lloyd also had a love for antique cars and enjoyed going to Car Shows.
On October 5th, 1972 he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Mae Green of Buckingham County, to this union two daughters and two sons were born.
He was proceeded in death by his son, Lloyd S. Hatcher Jr., father Royal Hatcher, mother Elizabeth Harris Hatcher, sister Queen Hatcher, brother Archie L. Hatcher, sister Mary Louise Brown, brother Andrew James Cato and brother Leroy Hatcher.
