Obituary of Claudette Fleming Witcher
Please share a memory of Claudette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In the mist of life comes death, which is considered the gateway to endless joy, to all of God's children who die in Him.
On the morning of Saturday, October 16, 2010 the soul of Claudette Witcher took flight to the " Kingdom of God and life ever more".
Deaconess Claudette Witcher's life began on January 31, 1953 in Cumberland, Virginia to the late James Fleming and Almead Hatcher Fleming.
She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized and became a member of the Tearwallet Baptist Church in Cumberland. She later was reborn in Christ and in 2000 she was ordained as a Deaconess. She later joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Cumberland.
Over the years God blessed her with many gifts, which she shared with her church family. She completed numerous bible courses; Steps to Life Ministries, World Bible School, and Discover Bible School , just to mention a few. Claudette got together with family and friends and created a "Women in Prayer" Partner Club. She also assisted with teaching Sunday School, where she taught them "This is my Bible". Her faith in Christ was strong and unwavering to the very end.
Claudette had a passion for fishing and playing scrabble. She was willing to help anyone in the time of need.
In 1995, Claudette met and married Alvin Witcher, Jr. They created a loving spirit-filled home, in which all were welcome. Not having children of their own, they reared their two nieces, Fletia Lewis and Tamekia (Meme)Brown as their own. They were also Godparents to their great niece, Dayshia Lewis and great nephew, Jeremiah Lewis. She looked to her father and mother-in-law as her own parents as well as Reverend Ryelander and Orabell Lewis.
Claudette had a love for traveling , where taking cruises was her heart. During one of her cruises she met two wonderful people , Bill and Pauline Grisham. The Grisham blessed Rev. Witcher and Claudette with an one week vacation on a cruise to Mexico, from which they just returned on Friday, October 8, 2010.
She leaves to cherish her memory and to carry out her legacy: Her devoted husband, Reverend Alvin Witcher, Jr.; one sister, Lora Tusim (Walter); three brothers, her twin, Claude Fleming (Ann) of North Carolina, Frolin Hatcher (Helen) of North Carolina, and James Fleming of California; father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Everlene Witcher, Sr., of Cumberland; two sisters-in-law, Christine Thomas (Edward) and Joann Witcher of Cumberland; two aunts, Brendall Hatcher of Cumberland and Dorothy Brooks of Pennsylvania, eight nieces, four of which they reared as their own, Shelia Fleming, Pamela Boatwright, Lisa Fleming, and Jamie Fleming; eight nephews, seven great nieces, ten great nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
Her favorite color was red representing "The Blood of Jesus".
