She was educated in the Granville County Public Schools in Oxford, North Carolina. Florence relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after leaving Oxford, NC at an early age. After many years of working in Philadelphia, she moved to New Jersey. As her family grew, she decided to move to Spring Valley, New York. Later, she moved to Powhatan, Virginia to be closer to her family. At that time, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan, VA. under the leadership of the late Pastor James E. Robinson. She was known for cooking, loved playing cards, gardening and growing beautiful plants. She always had a great sense of humor and was a friend to everyone she met. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, John Stanley Morton and one daughter, Sharrie Dannette Morton Lafoon. She leaves to cherish her daughter, Delphine Clarke (Earl); one son, Samuel Bell, Sr. (Leslie) and family; six grandchildren, Shaquan Middleton (Timothy), Arynn Jasper, Samuel Bell, Jr., Samuella Bell, Iyan Barquero and Lucius Lafoon; three great-grandchildren, Peyton Pegram, Dezmond Tyler and Javeon Middleton; one great-great granddaughter, Nyla Tyler; two sisters, Zadie Johnson, of Philadelphia, PA, Floretta Womble, of Siler, North Carolina; one brother, Jessie Throckmorton of Philadelphia, PA; one son-in-law, Christopher Lafoon; one sisterin- law, Ernestine Throckmorton of Ecorse, MI, extended family of John W. Bell, Jr., a host of other living relatives and friends. And a special thanks to close friends, Thomas & Rosemary Taylor, Howard & Dorothy Simms, Freddie Barquero, Ms. Evelyn Hughes; Envoy at The Meadows-especially Hall 100 and James River Hospice. From the grandchildren: God Saw You Getting Tired God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be So, he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come with Me", With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!
