Obituary of Jerry Lionel Patterson

Jerry L. Patterson was born on March 20, 1959, in Cumberland, Virginia, to the late Lewis Trent and Sally H. Patterson. He was predeceased by his beloved sister Diane Johnson-Dunston and brother Garfield Trent. Jerry was educated in Cumberland County Public Schools. Upon leaving school, Jerry worked as an experienced brick and block layer. This led to his employment with Landon G. Atkins Realtors where he helped to prepare homes for sale. Jerry also worked for the Virginia Forestry Department planting trees. His most recent employment was with the Powhatan School District where he performed maintenance on systems throughout the school. In his free time, Jerry loved to putter around his yard working on lawn mowers and other small engines. He was also an avid gardener and worked very hard to provide for his family. His yard was always full of life with children and grandchildren running around. Neighbors and friends often stopped by to throw horse shoes or shoot pool while listening to old school music with him during the summer. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jerry leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted companion of 44 years, Yvonne Brown; three children: Jerry, Chartrice and Jeremy Brown; seven grandchildren, A'kyse Brown, Sr., Alexis, Travon, Bre'Onna, Jermemiah, Nevaeh, and Kynadi; one great-grand, A'kyse Brown, Jr.; five brothers, Larry (Wynola), Chester (Marcia), Charles (Rhonda), Glenn (Estelle) and Michael; two sisters, Deloris Stewart and Alberta Patterson (James); one half-brother, Richard C. Trent; two halfsisters, Nora Jones and Loretha Thomas (Jeter); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
