Obituary of Kate Lee Childress

Kate Lee Scruggs Childress, daughter of the late Sarah and Willard Scruggs was born on June 3, 1934 in Buckingham County. She was the baby of a family of eleven children.
At an early age, Kate Lee joined Baptist Union Baptist Church and supported her church until her passing. She received her education in Buckingham County Public Schools.
In the year of 1981 she was joined in marriage to the late Jerome Sidney Childress.
She departed this life at home surrounded by family.
Nate, to all that knew her, was a very kind, loving and energetic woman. She made a living doing what she loved, housecleaning. She would give her last to anyone and was always willing to help.
Seven sisters and one brother preceded her in death: Virginia, Pearl, Gracie, Lucy, Viola, Martha Ann, Annie & Willard.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters and one son, Bernice Dabney (Ernest), Debbie Elaine Dabney of Dillwyn, VA; Judy Scruggs of Cumberland, VA, Belinda Holman (Chris) of Glen Allen, VA. and Daniel Scruggs (Rosena) of Cumberland; Ten grandchildren: Krystal Copeland (Brandon), Trayvon, Devin, Jasmine, Danielle, Dierra and Shamario Scruggs; Krishana and Imani Holman; T.C. Dabney and Whitney Langhorne. Seven great-grandchildren: Ashaad, Ashton, Brandon Jr., Cameron, Kennedy, Kylah and Titus; two sisters, Sarah Hendricks of Baltimore, MD. and Florine Booker of New Canton, VA; one devoted cousin, Marie Stanton of Dillwyn, VA.; five sisters-in-law, Betty Scruggs, Gracie, Frances, Helen and Leslie Childress; one brother-in-law, Jerry Childress; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; one niece and nephew that she treated as her own children, Darlene Langhorne (Jerry) of Dillwyn and Thomas Scruggs (Rose) of New Canton.
