Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Arthur Lee Woodard, son of the late Johnny Lee Woodard and Bessie Ginyard Woodard was born on August 5, 1924 in Wagner, South Carolina. After living in Wagner, South Carolina where he attended a one room school, he later moved to Washington, DC to further his education. After school Arthur moved to New York City and secured a job with New York City Transit Authority as a conductor for over 30 years until his retirement on December 13, 1987. He then decided that he wanted to purchase a home, which he did in 1974 in Columbia, Virginia. His favorite saying was, "I love the city, but I love the country also." After retirement he moved home. Desiring a church home, Arthur joined Pleasant View Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Ministry. Trustee Woodard was a devoted member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church until his health began to fail. On Wednesday, June 27, 2018 Arthur peacefully departed this life at his residence in Columbia, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ida Mae Robinson-Woodard; children, Richard Louis Woodard and James Lee Woodard; and stepmother, Venita Woodard. He leaves not to grieve a beautiful and loving family; a daughter, Kathilyn "Kat" Williams of Queensbury, NY; god-daughter, Joan DaSilva-Perkins of Cumberland, VA; three grandchildren, Thomas Williams of Troy, NY, Trevor (Julie) Williams of Radnor, PA and Nicole Williams of Springfield, PA; two great-grandchildren, Naylah Williams and Hannah Williams; and a host of cousins and friends.
