John "Buddy" Streat, son of the late Lucy Streat Brackett, was born on September 26, 1922 in Cartersville, Virginia He departed this life on Friday, June 1, 2018 in Maryland. He was preceded in death by his mother, his wife of 51 years Elsie Toler Streat, three brothers, Henry, Thomas, Benjamin and three sisters, Louise, Minnie and Ruth. At an early age he was baptized and became a member of Little Fork Baptist Church. Later, he joined Pleasant View Baptist Church and his membership remained there. During his stay in Maryland, he worshipped at St. John Baptist in Columbia, Maryland. Buddy was educated in Cumberland County Public Schools. He left school early to help provide for his family. There was never a time when Buddy was not working full and part time jobs. After he retired, he devoted his life to his family, friends, children and his grandchildren. He spent much time helping others in the community and churches. On Sundays, Buddy took great pride in attending churches in the area including Mt. Olive and Second Union. He lived independently in his home for many years. He enjoyed television and board games. He loved to watch especially "The Price is Right", "Let's Make A Deal", "In the Heat of the Night", "Blue Bloods", "Family Feud", "Walker, Texas Ranger", the news and many other old shows. He spent many evenings taking short walks along the property. After receiving a diabetic diagnosis by one of his doctors many years ago, Buddy began to eat healthier. These changes improved the condition to where he no longer needed medicine for the diabetes but he never failed to check his glucose level daily. Buddy was an avid baseball fan of several professional teams. Visiting Camden Yards to watch the Baltimore Orioles brought him great joy. Basketball was ok but he just couldn't get football. Buddy gave so much of himself so often, without expecting anything in return. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his children; John Arthur Streat, Lestine Williams, Earl Dexter Streat, Sandra Marvine Parker, Linda Marie Washington, and Sonia Streat Ford. Buddy also leaves sons-in-law; Benjamin Williams and Frank Ford; daughter-in-law, Shirley Neal Streat (deceased); grandchildren; Lisa Williams, Benita Boateng (Percy), Ian Williams, Jeuan Parker Sindab (Sammie), Heather Parker and Avril Washington; great-grandchildren; Cara Williams, Benjamin Williams, Efua Boateng, Efe Boateng, Kofi Boateng, Ava Blocker, Jada Blocker, Madeline Washington and Breyanna Washington.
