Obituary of Jeanette Herriott

Please share a memory of Jeanette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeanette Herriott lived a life of service for the United States of America and its citizens. Jeanette joined the United States Army in 1966 after graduating from George Washington High School in Manhattan, New York. After serving her country for 20 years as a medic, supply officer, driver, and Drill Sergeant, Jeanette retired and worked a second career with the United States Postal Service. When recently asked if we should stand for the national anthem, Jeanette gracefully answered, "you must remember that a lot of people have died for the flag and many more will – I've seen many of my friends die for it, so please, stand for them…" Jeanette was an avid bowler who participated in numerous tournaments, traveling the world, while serving in the military and in retirement. She enjoyed traveling, playing, and watching sports. Jeanette was a kind person who would give you the shirt off her back; first, you had to get past her piercing stare - once a Drill Sergeant, always a Drill Sergeant. Under the Drill Sergeant persona was a loving person with a big and kind heart; a beautiful spirit. Jeanette had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing. Jeanette found The Lord as a young child growing up with her grandparents in Georgetown, SC. She was baptized in her youth and was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Georgetown, SC. She developed a love of singing as a young child by serving in the church choir. Jeanette is survived by her sister; Rita Bromell, two nephews; Orlando and Lorenzo Bromell, their spouses: Charlene and Alexandria, five great nieces and nephews; Tavin, Isis, Aiden, Cailynn, and Malachi. Jeanette's extended family includes Renee Cassett, Charnelle and Rinee Cassett and their children Jahleel and Sugar, Marie William, Joanne Feaster, Barbara Shepperson and numerous cousins in Georgetown, SC.
