Obituary of Junius Alphonso Childress

Order of
Deacon Junius Alphonso Childress, Sr., son of the late Alphonso Childress and Daisy Hatcher Childress, was born on December 3, 1943 in Cumberland, Virginia.
"Jitter Bug", as he was affectionally known to many, attended Cumberland County Public Schools. He was baptized at an early age.
He worked for Holly Farms which later became Tyson Foods. There he retired in 2004 with thirty-three years of service. Deacon Childress was a true man of God, Kind hearted, loving, and generous to all. He loved to watched Westerns and his favorite football team Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed working outside.
Deacon Childress, was a devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He served twenty-five years on the male choir, where he held the title President. He became Deacon in 2002 serving sixteen years in the ministry, but his work never stopped there. He was a jack of all trades, mowing the lawn, catering to members, needs, transporting children to and from Sunday school. He was about his father's business.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving wife of fifty-three years, Deaconess Gracie Childress, six sons; Rodney Childress (Melinda), Junius Childress, Jr., Lacy Childress (Deborah), Kevin Childress (Wanda), Steven Childress (Yolanda), and Michael Childress; three daughters; Rosena Scruggs (Daniel), Michelle Richardson (Rev. John), and Rev. Lawanda Hampton (Calvin), twenty-four; grandchildren, sixteen; great-grandchildren, sixteen; great great-grandchildren, one brother; Jerry Childress (Leslie), step sister; Darcey Harvey (John), one uncle; Reuben Hatcher (Florence), mother-in-law; Dorothy Foster, six brothers-in-law; Glenn Reed, Ervin Foster, David Foster, Curtis Foster, Lonnie Foster, and James Booker, nine sisters-in-law; Lillian Bolden, Ardell Reed, Joyce Booker, Helen Childress, Ophelia Foster, Marian Foster, Frances Foster, Frances Childress, and Katie Lee Childress, numerous; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, four devoted; Carshena Epps, Sarah Trent, Richard Gregory and Matt Brown.
