On Monday, April 9, 2018 God sent his angels to bring his daughter, Blanche Johnson home. Blanche was born on June 2, 1922 to the late Claiborne Hughes, Sr. and Ervia Washington Hughes in Powhatan County, Virginia. She was one of nine children. At an early age Blanche joined Mt. Pero Baptist Church where she remained a lifelong faithful member; a devoted Christian and a prayer warrior. She loved the Lord. Blanche was educated in the Powhatan School System. During this time she met and married the late Hatcher Brown from this union four children were born: James, Mary, Lucille, and Hatcher. After relocating to New York years later she met and married Paul Johnson. Blanche and Paul joined Greater Victory Baptist Church and were faithful and dedicated members and she was also a watch care member. In the late 50s, they moved to White Plains, NY where they went into the luncheonette business. Several years later they relocated to the Bronx, where they owned and operated B&B Luncheonette. She was a business woman! She worked closely with the building management of 757 HDFC where she kept a faithful record of all building expenses for multiple years. Blanche always had a gift for accounting. She was a faithful servant to the Lord and worked closely to help burn two church deeds. An active community servant to which she received an honorary award for her community dedication from Bronx Lebanon Hospital for her service. Her fraternal affiliation began in 1967 when she joined the order of the Eastern Star. Sister Blanche Johnson held many offices within the organization. She was Past Matron of Queen Bathsheba Chapter 34 and a member of the Grand Chapter. She was a faithful member until her health began to decline. Blanche was preceded in death by two devoted and loving sons, James C. Brown and Hatcher Brown (Bessie-deceased) and seven siblings, Andrew Hobson, Carnell, George, Claiborne "Jake" Hughes, Mollie Hughes Crump, Annie Taylor, and Charlotte Mayo. She leaves to cherish her memory two devoted daughters, Mary E. Simmons (Charles-deceased) and Lucille Hoskins (Robert); one devoted daughter-in-law, Roberta Brown; one sister, Margaret Gainey who affectionately called her "Judy" (Langford, deceased); one sister-in-law, Leenell Owens (her buddy); 20 Grand Children; 37 Great-Grands; 23 Great- Great-Grands; one God-Child; and numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
