Obituary of Barbara Jean Solomon
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Barbara Jean Solomon, affectionately known as "Chicken", or "Bea", departed this life on March 29, 2018 at MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston, Texas. She was the fourth child born on December 15, 1953 to the late Roosevelt and Arlean Johnson.
At an early age, Barbara declared Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized, and attended Peaks Baptist Church in Prospect, Virginia. She later joined and worshiped at Sharon Baptist Church, Cumberland, Virginia, until her health began to fail and she relocated to Houston, Texas to seek medical treatment. She served on the Usher Board, Church Anniversary Committee and the Nurses Unit.
Upon graduation from Prince Edward County Public School in 1972, Barbara enrolled in Southside School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. As a helping, caring and affectionate person, nursing was the perfect career choice. She worked as charge nurse for several nursing facilities, Virginia Department of Correction and worked as a private duty nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Arlean Johnson, and her son, Eric Lamont Ferguson.
She is survived by her husband Solomon of Midlothian, Virginia; daughter, Katrina M. Lynch (Floyd) of Houston, Texas; four stepchildren, Eugene Solomon of Maryland, Chad Solomon of Atlanta, Georgia, Melvin Cowell and Nancy Fitzgerald of Richmond, Virginia; three grandsons, Jaquan Scott of Blacksburg, Virginia; Katron and Kheaton Lynch of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Rosemary Jackson (Alfred) of Prospect, Virginia, Joeann Johnson of Chesterfield, Virginia, and Annette Cole (Brian) of Wyanbanch, New York. Two brothers, Wilma Johnson (Regina) of Appomattox, Virginia, and Wayne Johnson of Prospect, Virginia; three brothers in law, Charles Solomon, Cornelius Solomon, Anthony Solomon, one sister in law Barbara Lucas; three aunts Carol Bagby and Alice Jones of Prospect, Virginia, and Minnie Hatcher of Amelia, Virginia. Five uncles; Samuel Jones, Sr (Dororthy), Clarence Jones, George Jones (Grace), David Jones Sr., and John Jones (Hester) all of Prospect, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. She had four special caregiver, one whom preceded her in death, Edwanndoe "Dee" Gilliam, Roberta Ferguson, Farmville, Virginia, Ykeisha "Keebie" Surratt of Charlotte, North Carolina and Barbara "Nanny" Wells of Beaumont, Texas.
Barbara was a warm, loving, kind, gentle, charismatic woman full of life and laughter. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help in any capacity even if it meant giving you her last dime. If there was anything she could say to us today, she'd say All is Well, my has just begun.
