Obituary of Leon Drew Woods

Leon D. Woods, a son of the late William J. Woods, Sr. and Parthenia Drew Woods- Morris was born in Provost, Virginia on October 21, 1934. Leon was baptized at an early age and joined Little Zion Baptist Church. Later in life, he joined Convent Avenue Baptist Church of New York, NY where he was a member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters ministry for new members. Leon was dedicated to his family assisting his mother and stepfather, Samuel B. Morris, Sr., attend to his younger brothers and sister at an early age. He was also dedicated to his nieces and nephews and brought joy to their lives. After graduating from high school, he moved to Richmond, VA and he worked for a retail department store in the administration office. Later, he moved to New York City in 1951, where he was employed in the Garment District where he was promoted to various positions within the industry and later retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas M. Morris and sisters-in-law Delores B. Morris (devoted) and Linda Bradley Morris. Leon departed this life on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY. He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, William J. Woods, Jr. (Lorene), Samuel B. Morris, Jr., Harold F. Morris, Sr. (Barbara), Earl S. Morris, Sr., Reverend Dr. Melvin E. Morris, and sister Juanita Trent (Earl) and a host of nieces and nephews.
