Annie Verlean Thornton slipped away into eternal rest on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born in Cumberland County Virginia, to the late Henry and Susie Thornton on September 4, 1951
She accepted Christ as her savior at an early age was baptized, and joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church. Where remained a faithful member, she loved her church family and support them anyway she could.
Annie attend the Cumberland County Public Schools. She worked for many years at various jobs to include Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation, Ginger Hall South, Levy Farms and her final being Tyson where she worked for 29 years.
She loved her family, friends and the Lord. She was a devoted companion, mother, grandmother. She loved planning family gatherings, and eating "our taste tester" She was always ready for a road trip.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Sheila T. Hardy.
She leaves to cherish her memories, life companion, William Ross; one daughter, Shirley Barksdale (James); five grandchildren, Dominique Erno (David), Shaunteshia, Lateshia, Earl "Man-Man", Talayna, seven great-grandchildren, Daz'mir, Da'Montae, Jeremih, Daijiro, Ahkeirah, Anansa, Ean; those she called her children Elnathan Brooks (Jamie), Royal Booker, Theodore Johnson (Anita), and Karl Jackson, two brothers, James Thornton (Linda) of Louisa, Virginia. Taylor Thornton (Carolyn) of Orange New Jersey, one sister; Betty "Blue" Dabney of Powhatan Virginia, one uncle; Edward Brooks; three aunts Otelia Crump, (aunt/other mother), Emma Brooks and Jimmie Lee Brown; one devoted cousin Darlene Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
