Obituary of Melvin Virginia Wade

On Saturday, April l, 2017, Melvin Virginia Wade was called from labor to reward. Melvin Virginia Wade was born July 26, 1922 to Mansfield and Chestina Johnson Jones in Buckingham County, Virginia. She was reared in a home with the love and affection of her parents and three siblings, Onell, Florine and Odessa. At an early age she was converted, baptized, and joined Baptist Union Baptist Church in Buckingham County. She attended the public schools in Buckingham County. Melvin was joined in wedlock to Rev. Alexandria Wade for over 75 years. They were blessed with five children, Alvin, Donald, Dorothy, Mattie, and Florrine. After marriage, she joined Pleasant View Baptist Church to be with her husband. Melvin served as First Lady of New Store Baptist Church in Buckingham County, Green Creek New Site in Cumberland County, and Mourners (Morning) Valley Baptist Church in Buckingham County where she also served on the Choir Ministry. Melvin enjoyed working with her flowers, gardening, and giving God her best. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Alexandria Wade; two sons, Alvin and Donald; two sisters, Florine and Odessa; and one brother, Onell. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; Rev. Dorothy Gilliam (Deacon Robert) of Columbia, VA, Deaconess Mattie Jackson (Lawrence) of Washington, DC, and Florrine Wade- Foster of Columbia, VA; five generations of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Grace Wade of Maryland and Queen Taylor of Richmond, VA; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Wade of Maryland; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, two devoted friends, Rev. Alease Langhorne and Mrs. Dorothy Lee.
