Obituary of Thomasena Thomas Robertson

Please share a memory of Thomasena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomasena Thomas Robertson was born on April 29, 1932 in Dillon, South Carolina. She quietly passed on January 8, 2017 at Amelia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. After high school, Thomasena moved from South Carolina to New Jersey. She was employed as a teacher by the Department of Education where she remained until retirement. Thomasena was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. During her membership at New Hope, she served on the Senior Usher Board, Board of Trustees, and was a faithful church member. Thomasena often talked about her days of ushering at New Hope Baptist Church. While attending New Hope Baptist Church, she was introduced to Charlie. In 1996, Thomasena and Charlie were joined in wedlock. Upon relocating to Cumberland, Virginia, she joined Mount Olive Baptist Church and remained a faithful and diligent member until her health began to fail. Thomasena was a good wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Her unselfishness will be missed in our home, church, and community. She was a kind person who was always willing to help others. As a family, our hearts are saddened over her homegoing, but we thank God for the time He shared her with us. Thomasena was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle H. Hayes and Melvin Hayes. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted and loving husband, Charlie Robertson; step-son, Kevin Robertson (Tina); sister-in-law, Gertrude Carter; sister-in-law, Louise Robertson (Henry); four grandchildren, Kevin, Justina, Raymond, and Alaynna; nine nieces and nephews, Gwendolyn Hayes (first born and devoted), Lyle Hayes, Nancy Hayes, Evelyn Hayes, Jason Hayes, Thomaseana Hayes (goddaughter and namesake), Cynthia Hayes, Sharon Hayes, and Erica Flowers; devoted friend and caretaker, Paula Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
