Please share a memory of Clarence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clarence Edward Gilliam, a son of the late Robert Lee and Susie Pittman Gilliam, was born July 31, 1940. He departed this life for eternal rest on Sunday, December 18, 2016.
Clarence was educated in the Cumberland County Public School system. He was converted, baptized, and joined Rising Zion Baptist Church.
On May 26, 1968, he married Hannah Brown.
Clarence worked at Powhatan Meat Locker Plant for many years while working at Massey Building Supply and the Cumberland County Landfill part-time.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Hannah Gilliam and son, Harold Brown. Clarence was known to many as "Shorty". He was a loving, devoted father and a caring, giving, and kind person who loved to joke around and always had a smile on his face. He loved to work on cars and help others.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memory: two devoted sons, Sampson Brown (Darlene) and Michael Gilliam (Latisha); two daughters, Mary and Betty Gilliam; three sisters, Gertrude Layne (Joe), Thelma Allen, and Otelia Gilliam; six sisters-in-law, Bernette Crump (Keroy), Carol Giles, Margaret Brown, Francis Rose (Warren), Caroline Brown (Raymond), and Ruth Hampton; one brother-in-law, Darnell Brown; eight grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
