Obituary of Martha Ellen Johnson

Martha Ellen Johnson, daughter of the late Sallie Trent Johnson and Daniel Johnson was born January 29, 1918 in Cumberland County, VA. She departed this life on Saturday, September 10, 2016, in Manhattan, NY. Martha attended Cumberland Training School. At an early age she joined Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She later joined Central Baptist Church in New York. She moved to South Orange, NJ and later to NY, where she met and married Stanley Johnson. Martha was employed as a seamstress until her retirement. She leaves to mourn her passing, three sisters, Charlotte Johnson of New York, NY, Viola Johnson of East Orange, NJ and Sarah L. Johnson of East Orange, NJ; a brother, Douglas Johnson (Lottie) of Cumberland, VA; nieces, a devoted niece Marion Taylor of Cumberland, VA, Janice Sutton of South Plainfield, NJ, Lillian Reaves of Piscataway, NJ, Grace Ferrell of South Orange, NJ, Adah Askew of Hawaii and god daughter, Mary Johnson of Cumberland; nephews, Earl Dickerson of Newark, NJ, Robert Johnson (Jessie) of Irvington, NJ, Herman Johnson, (Barbara) of Richmond, VA, god son Stanley J. Johnson of Richmond, VA; a great niece and god daughter, Bertha Walker (Robert) of Virginia Beach, VA. Many great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
