Julia Alice Taylor entered into her eternal rest at the home of her daughter on Thursday, January 28, 2010. She was known to many as Alice. Alice the forth of six children, was born on September 16, 1923 to Walter and Julia Harrison of Powhatan, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Julia Harrison, siblings Raleigh, and Lawrence Harrison, Myrtle Johnson and Fannie Harris. Alice was born and raised in Powhatan, Virginia. Alice was baptized and joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church at an early age. She attended church regularly and was a faithful member. She worked diligently at Mount Calvary Baptist Church as a member of the senior choir, trustee, and a member of The Get Together Club. Alice met her life-long partner, the late Milton Edward Taylor. They were married in Detroit, Michigan on December 3, 1946. They returned to Virginia in 1951. They showed a special love, as they would greet each other with "hey baby" and a gentle loving kiss. They were blessed with one daughter, Jacqueline. She and her husband also reared Regina Depass and Milton Finney. Alice worked for the Powhatan County School System. Her career span with the school system consisted of a school bus driver for over 18 years; making sure the students got to school and home safely, a teacher's aide, and a custodian; making sure the school was clean as the board of health. Alice was known as a great cook, a matriarch for the Harrison and Taylor families, and a stylish woman of fashion. She made sure that when she stepped out she was clean from head to toe. Alice was also known to help others throughout the community. Even when her health was not in good condition, she still wanted to help and do for others.
