Obituary of Joseph Issac Guinea
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Isaac Guinea, III, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 18, 1952, to the union of Cecilia (Shepherd) Guinea and Joseph Isaac Guinea, Jr. He attended Cleveland public schools and honorably served his country after graduation.
Joe enjoyed tinkering and fixing things, and built a career as an office equipment and copier technician, working for companies such as Canon, Ricoh, and Xerox for more than 25 years. He loved travelling, cooking, fishing, and spending time with his family. Joe loved to talk. His wife learned early in their marriage never to accompany him to the grocery store. A five minutes trip to pick up two items could turn into a two-hour meet and greet. Joe would strike up a conversation with everyone he met. He knew just enough about everything to be able to hold a conversation with anyone.
An avid fisherman, Joe loved the Chesapeake Bay, and would spend 12 hours fishing on a pier in the raging hot sun. He loved every minute of his time near the water. He had such a kind heart that he rarely made it off the pier with his catch, stopping to chat with other fisherman and sharing his bounty with everyone he met.
Joe departed this life on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at his home in Cumberland, VA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia, and his father, Joseph.
Joe leaves to mourn: his wife of 26 years, Lisa Smith Guinea of Cumberland; two sons, Joseph Isaac Guinea, IV, and Omar Maurice Guinea, both of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Nyla Grace of Cumberland; one sister, Patricia Guinea of Cleveland, Ohio; one "brother," Ron Woods of Chicago, Illinois; eight grandchildren; one heartbroken lap dog, "Roscoe;" and a host of devoted and loving family and friends.
