Obituary of Burndetta Louise Jones

On November 4, 1929 Burndetta Louise Jones was born to Manfield and Donzella Davenport Jones in Cartersville, Virginia. Burndetta gave her life to Christ at a young age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cartersville. She lived here in Cartersville until she graduated from Cumberland Training School in 1951. After completing school Burndetta moved to New York where she remained until her death. Burnie as she was called by many. Worked for several different companies but she talked about her first employment at Hygienol Company and last employment at Toddler Park Head Start. Burndetta loved to read; watch CSI, Law & Order and General Hospital; she enjoyed her green plants. She never married nor had any biological children but she loved her nieces and nephews as her own. The staff and children of Toddlers Park Head Start was dear to her heart as well as her church family at Shiloh Baptist Church in New Rochelle, New York. Burnie had such a love for children that she became part of the Foster Grandparent program; where she served as a dedicated grandparent for many years. She often spoke fondly her building Superintend, Freddie Rodriguez and her neighbors on the second floor. Sitting in her apartment, she departed this life on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents and all twelve of her siblings. She leaves to cherish her fond memories, nieces, one devoted Edna Tyree; nephews; great nieces; great nephews, one devoted, Conrad Tyree (Eurika); great great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; one devoted friend, Sallie Lockett and a devoted lifelong companion, Edmund Adams. Burnie will truly be missed by all.
