Obituary of Charlotte Jane Mayo

On Sunday, September 27, 2015 our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called home his daughter, Charlotte J. Mayo. She was born to Claiborne Hughes and Evria Washington Hughes, on July 19, 1920 in Powhatan County, Virginia. She was one of nine children. At an early age Charlotte joined Mt. Pero Baptist Church in Powhatan where she was a devoted member until her transition. She attended the public schools in Powhatan County. Most of her life was spent living and working in Powhatan County. For a brief period of time, she worked in Riverhead, New York. On September 3, 1938, Charlotte Hughes married James Mayo of Powhatan, VA. To this union, three children were born: Laura Evria, James Arthur, and Joseph Harrison. She was preceded in death by her parents, six of her brothers and sisters: Andrew Hobson, Carnell, George, and Claiborne (Jake) Hughes, Mollie Overton, and Annie Taylor. She leaves cherished memories of a life well-lived with her beloved children, Laura Daniels (Curtis), James Mayo, Jr. (Carolyn), and Joseph G. H. Mayo (Audrey); 13 grandchildren, Charlene Williams, Darien Johnson, Joi Mayo, Shell Daniels, Joseph Mayo, Jr., Todd Mayo, Shane Daniels, Renee Mayo, Shermeka Mayo, Radamee Angelo Mercado, Juan Mercado, Clay Daniels and Sabrina Johnson; twenty four great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; two sisters, Blanche Johnson of Bronx, NY and Margaret Gainey of Richmond, VA and numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
