Obituary of Mary Rosa Crump
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Rosa Crump fondly known by many as "Grandma Rosa" was born in Cumberland County, Virginia on March 14 1916, to Lucy Giles Banks and John Banks.
At an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of Center Union Baptist Church, where her membership remained. Mary met and married McKinley R. Crump, and from this union a daughter (Kate) and son (McKinley John) were born. In 1944 she and McKinley moved to Peconic, NY
to seek employment; where she joined the First Baptist Church, Cutchogue, NY. She was an active and faithful member of the church and choir. She worked as a Home Caregiver, and in her spare time, loved to sit on the rocks of the Long Island Sound fishing for hours at a time. After her husband retired from the US Government, she and he returned to Cumberland in 1982; where they both reconnected with Center Union Baptist Church, family and friends.
She departed this life on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Farmville, Farmville, Va. She was surrounded by caring and supportive staff, and her special "hymn and prayer" staff member Deborah Bracey; who was like a daughter. She was a lovable person and enjoyed greeting people.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Lucy Banks; brother Richard Taylor; husband McKinley R. Crump; son-in-law, Moses Trent; grandson Moses Lee Trent; two great-grandchildren, Monique and Morgan Trent, and her adoptive son Jessie Crump.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Kate Elizabeth Trent and McKinley John Crump; daughter-in-law, JoAnn; five grandchildren, William Trent, (Mary Ann), Jerome Trent, (Cindy), Dwayne Trent (Wanda), Danielle Crump and McKinley J. Crump Jr; twenty plus great-grandchildren; sixteen plus great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Louise Booker; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a lot of special children
