Obituary of Helena Virginia Booker

Helena Virginia Johnson Booker was born May 16, 1929 in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Helen Johnson Morton and the step daughter of Andrew Thomas Morton.
Helena accepted the "Lord Jesus" as her personal Savior and was baptized at an early age. She became a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John S. Jordon of Cartersville, Virginia. She served as president of the Senior Choir and Adult Sunday School Teacher for a number of years.
She became affiliated with the New Hope Baptist Church in New Canton, VA under the leadership of Rev. John W. Steed in 1997 when her husband, Arthur moved his membership from Petersville Baptist Church to New Hope Baptist Church.
Helena graduated from the Buckingham Training School (old B.T.S) in the year of 1948. After her graduation she remained home and cared for her maternal grandmother until her death in 1967. She moved to Arlington, VA with her parents after her grandmother's passing. Helena remained there about thirteen months. While there she was employed at the Lomax's A.M.E. Child Care Center.
Helena was joined in marriage to Arthur P. Booker on February 8, 1969. He preceded her in death after 33 years of marriage. No children were born to this union.
On Saturday, July 4, 2015 Helena departed this life at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Farmville, Farmville, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all of her siblings. A devoted cousin, Audrey Ayers and devoted friend, Harry Lewis.
She is survived by numerous cousins which were her nearest kindred; several devoted cousins, Rowena Little (Walter), Ruby Johnson (Andrew) and Lisa P. Brown; foster brother, Carl E. Davis of Manassas, VA; one sister-in-law, Nora H. Booker of Cumberland, VA; two nephews, David Fleming and Norman Booker, Jr.; a great niece, Clara Foster; great nieces and nephews and a number of kind friends, James & Mary Anderson, Jean Garrett, Lillian Fletcher, Brenda Wiley, Julia Ford, the Thomas Family of Fork Union and her caregivers, Earl & Mary Washington
