Obituary
Obituary of Ronald A. Coleman
Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ronald A. Coleman, Sr., was born on November 28, 1948 in Camden, NJ. On May 20, 2015, his spirit
joined his parents, Grady and Ruth Coleman and his sisters, Marilyn Frazier and Susan Coleman in heaven.
Ronald was affectionately known as "Hoppy" to our family and "Big Hop" to his friends. He was educated in the Camden School System and received his GED through the NJ Job Corps. Hoppy served as a Sergeant in the United States Army and completed two tours in Vietnam. Throughout his lifetime he worked for the City of Camden Public Works Department, Local Union 789 (Richmond, Virginia), Buckingham Correctional Department (Dillwyn, Virginia), Schneider National Trucking (Gordonsville, Virginia), Champion Trucking, Inc. (Camden, NJ) and his last employer due to illness was Local Union 222 in Camden, NJ.
Hoppy married Brenda Mayo on April 1, 1989. This union remained until his last breath.
Hoppy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pinochle (double deck or single), and watching westerns, war stories and Jeopardy. He read so much; we called him our National Geographic expert, second only to our Uncle Sonny. Also, he enjoyed cooking all the wild game he would hunt and always tried to fool us into thinking it was just chicken! Most of all he was our family "Protector" and you couldn't have asked for a better one. He never asked questions, he just wanted the name. Before we could blink, the matter had been handled! But at his core he was a gentle giant and a momma's boy!
Hoppy accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Tenth Street Baptist Church. Although he was unable to attend church due to his lengthy illness, he greatly enjoyed bible reading and prayer.
Hoppy leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Brenda; children, Ronald Jr. (Carolyn), Franklin B-McDill, and Earl Davis; grandchildren; siblings, Mark , Bruce, Edwin (Pierre), Evelyn and Carolyn Coleman; aunts, Kathryn Miller, Lucille Mendez - Vaz, and Audrey White; a special nephew, Blake Frazier; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
