Obituary of Charlie Lewis Allen

Charlie Lewis Allen, Sr. was born in Buckingham, Virginia on March 14, 1930 to Charlie and Sue Brown Allen.
He accepted Christ at a young age and joined Zion Baptist Church in Dillwyn, Virginia. He attended Cumberland County Public School and later worked for Billy LeSeur.
Charlie married Gertrude Geneva Woodson on May 12, 1956. In 1965, he was employed as a truck driver by Holly Farms/Tyson Foods. He retired in 1993 after 28 years of service. After retirement, Charlie enjoyed working outdoors, fishing, watching television and spending time with his family and friends.
On Friday, May 22, 2015 he departed this life at his residence in Dillwyn, Virginia. Charlie was the youngest of 11 children and was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, one grandchild, Justine;
nephew, Douglas; and brothers-in-law, Archie and James.
Charlie leaves to cherish his wife of 59 years, Gertrude; five children, John (Mary Ann), Charlie Jr. (Carol), Jean, Ronnie (Audra) and Christine; 11grandchildren, Johnnell (Gary), Shauntrice, Jamari, Shawn (Emily), Justin, Jeremy, Jerome, Ronnie Jr., Christian, Jasmine; 6 great grandchildren, Tyra, ShaNyla, Kristian, Shaiann, Messiah and Ainsley; numerous nieces, three devoted, Laura May (Matt), Deborah (Norman) and Susie; numerous nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law, Delma, Dorothy (Charles), Shirley (Robert), Ruth (Moses), Raleigh (Elaine), Brenda, Clarence, Betty (Elmus) and Lucille (Samuel). He also leaves to cherish a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, including good friends, Ted Waycaster and Moses Gibson.
Charlie was a devoted husband and father, kind hearted, loving, respected, loyal and hardworking. Charlie always kept a smile on his face. Affectionately known as "Pa", "CharLewis" and "Cotton-Top", Charlie is
loved by all who knew him and will truly be missed.
