Obituary of Percy Elmo Brown

Percy E. Brown, Jr. known by many as "Big P" was the oldest of four children was born on July 13, 1956 to Percy E. Brown Sr. and Lucy Allen Brown in Cumberland County, Virginia.
At an early age he was baptized and joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Cumberland, VA. Percy attended Luther P. Jackson Elementary School and Cumberland High School. He also furthered his education in carpentry after relocating to Long Island, NY. He had many lines of work over the years;
The Duck Plant in Long Island, NY, Ukrops warehouse in Richmond, VA to cooking in The Stop In, in Cumberland, VA.
While battling diabetes for most of his adult life, Percy had several health challenges that included a leg amputation, and being on dialysis for several years. Threw it all he never stop smiling and he never complained. He was always happy, vibrant and full of life. On July 31, 2013 he received a kidney and he gained a whole new look on life.
Percy enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and fishing but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed being a father but being "Papa" to Taylor was what he spent the last eight years doing and he LOVED every minute of it.
After he relocated to Virginia he met and married the love of his life Vivian Gray Brooks on July 13, 2005. He then made Rocky Mount Baptist Church his church home, where he later joined the Senior Choir Ministry. On September 24, 2014 Percy departed this life at his residence in Richmond, Virginia.
His memory will be cherished by: his devoted wife, Vivian; two daughters, Sherice Brown and Tia Brown; one step-daughter, Teneka Brooks; one stepson, Thomas Brooks, Jr.; four grandchildren; one devoted granddaughter, Taylor "Monkey" Johnson; godson, James Scruggs, Jr.; parents, Percy and Lucy
Brown; one brother, John Brown (Darlene); two sisters, Lorraine Ross (John) and Yvonne Brown; six aunts, Loveline Foster, Delphine Dabney, Corrine Hatcher, Alice Gregory, Bettie Brown, Frances Scruggs (James); four uncles, Willie Allen (Luriane), Harrison Allen (Jean), Robert Allen (Tressie), and Royal
Brown (Andre'); great uncle, Ernest Allen; father-in-law, Elvin Gray; sister-inlaw, Barbara Foster (Ricky); two brothers-in-law, Samuel Gray and Michael Gray (Carol) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, one devoted, Joe Woodson.
