Obituary of Willie Nash

Willie N. Nash, Sr., was called to his Heavenly home on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Retreat Hospital. He was born on June 29, 1935 a son of the late Sammie Nash and Lady Carrington Nash of Cartersville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Sammie Albert, Harold, John Edward, and Arthur; three sisters; Rubicila, Hazel, and Dorothy Alice. At an early age, Willie was converted, baptized and joined the New Hope Baptist Church of Cartersville, Virginia. He attended Luther P. Jackson High School in Cumberland County and later joined the United States Army where he received his Honorable discharge. On April 19, 1958, he was joined in holy matrimony to Melcenia Simms of Powhatan County, Virginia. From this union, three sons and two daughters were born. Willie was employed at Southern Brick & Supply Company in Richmond, Virginia for many years until he reached retirement. He later worked for Goodwill Industries in Powhatan, Virginia until his health failed. He leaves to cherish fond memories his devoted wife Melcenia, two daughters, Rita Nash (devoted and caregiver) and Karen (Tony)Harris; three sons; Willie (Mary)Scruggs (Fiancee),Ray (Bernice),and Wayne (Rojannette); five grandchildren; Shaun (Jakia) Nash, Tony, Jr. and Aaron Harris, Taylor and Orlando Nash, two great grandchildren; Kellen and Kerrigan Nash; eight sisters-in-law; Polly Nash of Philadelphia, Mamie Nash of Goochland, Virginia, Mary Hite of Newark, Delaware, Betty Ann Nash, Evelyn Graham, Deborah Taylor, Ercelle Simms, and Marlene Anderson all of Powhatan, Virginia; five brothers-in-law; Monroe C. Hite, Jr. of Newark, Delaware, James Taylor, Robert Graham, Pete Simms and Garland Anderson, all of Powhatan, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; among them four devoted friends, Sharasa Williams and daughters, De', Alexis and Jayla and Mary Scruggs
